Yoga therapy is a powerful form of healing. Yoga therapy focuses on regulating the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for regulating the body's response to stress. Through specific gentle yoga poses, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques you will learn to dial down the fight or flight response and activate the relaxation response. One of the key ways that yoga therapy helps regulate the nervous system is via the vagus nerve. By practicing slow, deep breathing, gentle movements, and self-massage, we can tone the vagus nerve and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This is what helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Additionally, incorporating gentle yoga poses into your bedtime routine can help discharge stress from the day, relax the body, and prepare it for sleep.
